SPDX examples and demo
Mark Gisi
At the Linux Foundation’s Open Compliance Summit last October, we received several requests for SPDX file examples and a demo of SPDX file generation. Here is a web page that makes these resources available:
To facilitate the adoption of SPDX we hope to add more examples and demos over the coming months.

Daniel,
Thanks to you and Trevor for contributing.
I agree with Guillaume. This is great discussion for the Legal Team.
Let's remove the general list from the thread. (also, please note that the fossbazaar list you originally used is out of date)

Taxonomy to classify types of software licences
stijn.goedertier@...
Hi all,
I would like to bring to your attention that the AMDS.SW Working Group has released 9 software taxonomies under an open licence with multilingual labels in 7 languages. These taxonomies [3] include: Licence Type, Intended Audience, Natural Language, Operating System, Programming Language,Status, Topic, User Interface / Graphical Environment, and Publisher Type. I think especially the Licence Type taxonomy could be of particular interest to the SPDX community. The taxonomies can be viewed on this web page: https://joinup.ec.europa.eu/svn/adms_foss/amds_sw_taxonomies/ADMS_SW_v1.00_Taxonomies.html and can be downloaded here: https://joinup.ec.europa.eu/asset/adms_foss/release/release100 The taxonomies are represented in a machine readable format: the SKOS standard of W3C. The majority of these taxonomies were originally made available in March 2012 by SourceForge under CC BY 3.0 [2]. We hope that the use of common taxonomies to categorise software will contribute to making software better searchable on the Web. with kind regards, Stijn [1] https://joinup.ec.europa.eu/svn/adms_foss/amds_sw_taxonomies/ADMS_SW_v1.00_Taxonomies.html [2] http://sourceforge.net/apps/trac/sourceforge/wiki/Software%20Map%20and%20Trove [3] https://joinup.ec.europa.eu/asset/adms_foss/release/release100 [4] https://joinup.ec.europa.eu/asset/adms_foss/description *Professional Mail* *Professional Mail*------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ This e-mail is intended only for the person to whom it is addressed. licensing data of FOSS
dmg
Hi everybody,
We are trying to create a Web site where we publish the licensing data of open source applications. This is work in progress, and it needs work. We are trying to analyze different versions of applications that appear in Debian. Each app is broken down by license (as identified by Ninka. For example, zlib: http://ag.cs.uvic.ca/project/1114/files/1/ or sqlite http://ag.cs.uvic.ca/project/1302/files/1/ You can navigate the applications here: http://ag.cs.uvic.ca/ Hopefully this will help in the development of SPDX. --dmg -- Daniel M. SPDX discussion on the BusyBox mailing list.
Bradley M. Kuhn <bkuhn@...>
I've not had much time to keep up with SPDX in the last few months, but
I wanted to let everyone know that "the thread" that I've been insisting for years ought to be started on the BusyBox mailing list has finally begun! I'm very glad to see it. Here are links the first two messages: http://lists.busybox.net/pipermail/busybox/2012-September/078399.html http://lists.busybox.net/pipermail/busybox/2012-September/078416.html I think a thread is likely to get moving, so I encourage anyone interested in doing a "real world" example of SPDX file join the BusyBox list and participate. Conservancy is really hoping to get heavily involved at this point in building a good SPDX file for BusyBox and our other projects; I'm looking for ways to make that happen now. -- -- bkuhn
