I wanted to inform you of some updates to the SPDX legal team membership.
For some years now, Paul Madick, Karen Copenhaver and I have shared the SPDX legal team leadership responsibilities and formed part of the SPDX core team. Karen has been a huge supporter and voice of wisdom for SPDX (and beyond) since its inception. I’d like to personally, as well as on behalf of the SPDX legal team, thank Karen for her incredible contributions over the many years since our humble beginnings.
As Karen enjoys retirement and as Paul and I have also been involved since early days, it's important to keep some fresh enthusiasm and perspective at the helm. Simultaneously, it’s also important to have leaders who understand the project, are wiling to roll up their sleeves and get stuff done, and encompass the legal perspective that underlies and guides the SPDX legal team’s activities.
For this reason, Paul and I have nominated Steve Winslow to join the SPDX legal team leadership and he was subsequently appointed by the Core Team[1]. Steve has a excellent grasp of the use-case for SPDX due to his audit and compliance work and has been an excellent SPDX contributor with both the legal and technical skills the current era of the SPDX legal team needs. Paul and I will continue to co-lead with Steve, although you may hear Steve’s voice more on upcoming calls.
Please help me thank Karen for and welcome Steve to the SPDX legal team leadership. On a more personal note, I’m happy to share the news that I have begun a new role with the excellent legal department at Canonical.
