Re: Hosting the SPDX 2.0 License Compare to Drive Traffic to SPDX Site
Manbeck, Jack
Tom,
A call is being set up with the LF to discuss with them. There are a few other hosted services we would like to see as well. If that doesn’t work out, well send you a bill J. All kidding aside though we will keep everyone up to date as this progresses.

Hi Gary,
I wish I could offer to contribute like I formerly did, but I am now without cycles.
Is the option to host the compare utility still being discussed? I continue to think that this will be a huge driver to SPDX, including the potential for additional individuals joining the team.
Also, the first group to do this will get the benefit. Great if we can be that group.
All, Gary mentions below:
- A hosted instance of Tomcat - Some time or volunteers to add a web front end to the SPDX tools (or, alternatively, write a different set of tools if the volunteer wanted to work in a different programming language)
Can anyone assist with the above? If we need to go to Amazon, I’ll write the first month’s check.
Tom

Hi Tom and Jilayne,
This is also high on my list of things to do along with an SPDX online validation tool. We had a Google Summer of Code project defined for the latter, but unfortunately the Linux Foundation was not included in GSoC this year. I do, however, have a student from last year, Gang Ling, who is interested in volunteering to help with such an effort.
To move this forward, we would need two things: - A hosted instance of Tomcat - Some time or volunteers to add a web front end to the SPDX tools (or, alternatively, write a different set of tools if the volunteer wanted to work in a different programming language)
We can approach the Linux Foundation and see if they can provide a Tomcat instance. We can also use Amazon for 20 to 30$/month. Solidifying the plaing for a Tomcat instance is probably the first step.
For the web front end, I have done some of the work already. I was thinking I could work with Gang Ling and see if we could get something working. Once we have the Tomcat instance plans in place, I can also request volunteers on the tech mailing list.
I probably won't make any progress on this myself until after this month (there has been an unusually heavy demand for code audits lately). If someone wants to ping the Linux Foundation for hardware/software support for a Tomcat instance that would help move it forward.
Gary

Tom read my mind - that would be so awesome!!!
How might we go about doing that??
